Cycling for a Cause

Raising funds for a cause is one of the greatest ways to unite a community. This annual fundraising event did just that and more! This past Saturday, NC State hosted its 5th annual Cycle for Survival studio event. Cyclist were there to create a community focused on raising awareness and money for rare cancer research.

Thirty participants filled the studio and were led by two professional instructors, one from CycleBar and the other from FlyWheel. Brittney Guerin, the instructor from FlyWheel, brought Cycle for Survival to NC State five years ago. Students and professors participated in the ride alongside Raleigh community members. Among them was Michele Benz, the highest fundraiser this year.

This year’s original fundraising goal was $3,000, but the team went above and beyond by raising $4,430. This incredible success would not have been possible without the great coordinators and participants of the event. Cycle for Survival has brought about a tangible way for people to join the fight against cancer by donating 100 percent of their funds to cancer research. To date, Cycle for Survival has raised $163 million for rare cancer research, funding over 100 clinical trials and research studies.

NC State has the unique opportunity to host an annual Cycle for Survival event and thanks to people like Guerin, it is easier now for students to participate. If you are interested to learn how you can get involved, cycle back around next year with a couple friends and register on our website.
