Annual Service Day at Lake Raleigh
On Friday, March 20, University Recreation staff participated in the department’s annual Service Day to clean up Lake Raleigh. There were three clean up crews made up of professional and student staff; two walking on the greenway of the lake and one in a canoe to get to the harder to reach areas along the shore. At the end of the day trash and recycling were sorted into separate bags, and the final product was ten large bags that were completely full. Student staff were awarded for the most disgusting trash, most unique trash, and largest trash item found to make the event more interactive. The final award was given to the most spirited team at the end of the day.
One of the facilitators, David Crye, Assistant Director of Outdoor Adventures said, “Many of the participants were surprised at how much trash there was. The group definitely made an impact on Lake Raleigh.”
