Men’s Club Basketball Holds Charity Tournament

The Men’s Club Basketball Team organized Dunking For Deah, a 3-on-3 tournament in honor of former NC State students Deah Barakat, Yusor Abu-Salha and Razan Abu-Salha on February 27.

Ben Simons, the Club President hopes to see this tournament occur annually and thought the tournament overall was a success. “When hearing the tragic news of the shootings that occurred at UNC-Chapel Hill, I immediately had the idea of putting a tournament together to honor Deah. Although I never knew Deah personally, I saw through social media he loved to play basketball at Carmichael when he attended NC State.”

Forty men’s teams and eight women’s teams participated in this tournament, which raised $1800 for Deah’s Syrian Dental Relief Cause. “When thinking about this tournament, I knew I wanted to raise money for the project he was working on to help people in Syria with dental care.”
