University Recreation Employee Selected as 2016 Spring Commencement Speaker

University Recreation is proud to say that one of our own will be the Spring Commencement speaker for the 2016 spring graduation. Tatiana Deberry has been with University Recreation for most of her collegiate career. Starting as a Sports Programs Supervisor, she has moved up to be a Sports Programs and Club Sports Program Assistant.

Tatiana is a senior in Criminology with a minor in Political Science. Her goals after graduation are to go to law school, and then on the be the first African-American female Supreme Court Justice.

Outside of University Recreation, Tatiana is extremely involved on campus. She is a member of the NC State Conduct Board, the President of the Club Sports council, and the President of DanceVisions Dance Company. She is also an initiated member of the Afrikan American Student Advisory Council. In her free time, she enjoys hanging out with friends, her dog Nike, and watching crime shows like Criminal Minds, Scandal and How To Get Away With Murder.

As a Sports Programs and Club Sports Program Assistant, she has numerous responsibilities. She deals directly with facilitating Leadership Development Series meetings and reinforcing Club Sports compliance. She is a liaison between the club sports officers and the Sports Programs professional staff. She said, “this position has given me a great deal of practice with interpersonal communication and motivating others around me.”

She said, “I believe my greatest accomplishment at NC State besides being selected as Student Commencement Speaker is my growth as a person. I do believe that my employment with University Recreation and the relationships that I have built at this university have cultivated me into a woman that I am proud of.”

Tatiana’s friends say, “she is a kind and hardworking woman, and always respects others and puts the people she cares about in front of herself. Whenever anyone needs a helping hand, she is the first one to be there for them, and to always support them in whatever they do.”

There is no doubt that Tatiana will represent University Recreation and NC State well during her presentation of this speech, and will continue to do so after graduation.
