Changes Coming to WolfWheels Bike Program

As NC State University transitions to the convenience of LimeBikes that are available to rent around the clock, the WolfWheels program through University Recreation is transitioning to best serve the needs of students and the Wolfpack community.

Starting summer 2018, WolfWheels will discontinue renting single-speed bicycles as this commuting option is now met through the LimeBike Program. University Recreation will instead provide mountain bikes and geared road bikes that are more suitable for recreational bike riding.

Bikes previously used through the WolfWheels program will be available for purchase at Surplus Property Services as part of their public surplus sales program. Outdoor Adventures will continue regular open bike maintenance at the Carmichael Recreation Center.

The WolfWheels program was started in 2010 as a collaboration between University Recreation and campus partners. The program regularly serves 30 semester bike renters each semester, and thousands of daily and weekend renters since its inception. Usage of this program declined in 2017-18 as the LimeBike program was implemented.

With this change in operation, NC State students will now have the best of both worlds, with LimeBikes for short trips to and from class and recreational bikes for day and weekend trips on the greenway or local mountain bike trails.
