Inaugural group of Well Wolfpack Certified Organizations recognized

During the summer, 19 organizations across campus submitted applications and completed criteria the outline support and commitment to employee wellness. These organizations are part of the inaugural Well Wolfpack Certified Organizations group.

Certifications are awarded in the categories of gold, bronze and silver, with points assigned and earned for demonstrating efforts in categories such as fostering a culture of wellness, nutrition and active workplace initiatives.

“Cultivating a culture of wellness for the campus community begins with faculty and staff members. These 19 organizations have demonstrated a commitment to the health and well-being of their employees. We want to congratulate them on making wellness a priority,” said Shannon DuPree, University Wellness Specialist for University Recreation, who oversees the program.

Other university organizations also echoed the importance of fostering a culture of wellness at NC State.

“Wellness contributes to life satisfaction and in turn job satisfaction and performance. University Communications and Marketing wants to be known as a place that values employees’ well-being and helps to foster such,” said Jennifer Kendall of University Communications.

To help foster the culture of wellness, Kendall organizes weekly group fitness classes for employees and sends out monthly communication with health and wellness tips.

Exploratory Studies, which was recognized as a gold–level recipient, implemented a Wellness Committee that organizes events and activities for their team. They have hosted Wellness Education sessions and group fitness classes for their team.

“It was important for our department to apply.  Our leadership understood that to be our best professionally, we had to be our best personally.  Exploratory Studies has worked hard to create a culture of wellness as well as a healthy work environment, ” said Victoria Silvestry.

The certification is awarded annually. Organizations who would like to be recognized for this completing the criteria will be able to apply for the certification in January 2018. Additional information can be found at wellness.ncsu.edu.
