Clubs Recognized for Philanthropic Efforts

While striving for academic and athletic greatness at NC State, making an impact through philanthropy is still a passion for our student-athletes.

This past Saturday at NC State’s men’s basketball home game versus Clemson, that sentiment was honored as Women’s Club Rugby and Men’s Club Lacrosse teams were recognized for their participation in the Big 4 Million Meals Challenge.

As a statewide initiative built to provide meals for those in need, this philanthropic initiative is also a competition between the four North Carolina ACC programs (NC State, Wake Forest, Duke and North Carolina) to see which university can make the biggest impact.

These two clubs have recently spent their free time raising money and collecting non-perishable goods as they seek contributed to NC State’s efforts to lead the cause. This commitment to community involvement provides insight into the spirit of the Wolfpack which seeks to add to their surroundings in a positive manner.

When asked about their inspiration to partake in the Big 4 Million Meals Challenge, men’s lacrosse president John Hughey said, “We have 45 guys on our team so we make sure to get involved and make a difference in our community.”

“It is important to us to make sure that we add to the community that allows us to study and play the sport we love. This initiative is just one of the ways we participate in philanthropy” Hughey added.

Having played a major role in the progression of NC State’s impact, we are proud to see the impact student-athletes are making in the community.

While chasing their dreams in the classroom and on the playing field, women’s club rugby and men’s club lacrosse are cementing the importance of community involvement at NC State.
