Cycle For Survival Surpasses Expectations

Earlier this month, members of the NC State community gathered together with Cycle for Survival to raise money for rare cancer research. As the fourth annual fundraiser hosted by the university, contributions from this event have continued to rise over the years, and this year co-coordinators Christine Amendola and Chloe Shevlin were excited to report they reached their highest amount with $2,834.

Participants gathered in the Carmichael Recreation Center on a Saturday morning for 90 minutes of intense cycling, but the event was not without encouragement. Amendola and Shevlin provided themes, music and video slideshows to keep cyclists energized and motivated all morning.

“A 90-minute ride is pretty extensive – especially if you’re not an avid cyclist! The themes help keep morale and excitement high and Becky,[the instructor] always does an amazing job incorporating the themes into her playlist” says Shevlin.

The slideshow pictured upbeat videos, photos and inspirational quotes that related to the day’s themes of Empower, PackInAction and Resilience. Shevlin also reports that the addition of multiple instructors and the close atmosphere in which the event took place only added to the vivacious energy of the group.

The co-coordinators are extremely pleased with this year’s results and hope to only expand upon them in the future. “Overall it was overwhelmingly inspiring and very empowering to see our community unite for such a great cause.”
