Locker Room Project Update

Students & Carmichael Members:

As the spring semester begins, I want to give you a quick update on the Carmichael Locker Room Renovation & Fitness Center Expansion project. As you know, we were hoping to open the first section of the renovation when we return in January 2016…and we will be very close. However, due to unforeseen conditions we will be a bit delayed in opening all of the space as originally anticipated.

Here’s the projected schedule of when new spaces will be open for your use:

January 2, 2016
Main Breezeway Entrance, Studio 1206, Studio 1240, Golf Room, new corridor to access Carmichael Gym West – 1987 Building (racquetball courts, track, Mini Gym, 1308, 1309, etc.)

January 19, 2016
New Strength & Conditioning Fitness Center

February 1, 2016
Locker rooms, equipment checkout, clothing service

In the meantime, please visit the project webpage for pictures and updates as they become available.

Locker Room Project Information

Women’s Locker Rentals

Overnight lockers in the Women’s Locker Room will be available for rent beginning February 1, 2016. Women are invited to visit the Member Services Suite to select a locker starting January 25, 2016. Locker rental rates will be $5 per month or $60 per year. Faculty and staff may enroll in payroll deduction for this charge. Day-use lockers will also be available for your convenience.

Men’s Locker Rentals

Due to the high demand of men’s overnight lockers and the limited supply at the completion of phase one of the renovation, all lockers will continue to be day-use only when the new locker room opens February 1, 2016. Overnight lockers in the Men’s Locker Room will be available for rent sometime after April 1, 2016. More information will be shared as we near project completion.

Getting Around the Complex
January 2 – January 31, 2016

The Main Breezeway Entrance will serve as the primary entrance to Carmichael Gym along with the Cates Avenue Entrance. Three temporary entrances will remain available:

  • Aquatic Center Entrance for access to pools and temporary locker rooms
  • The Aquatic Center hallway adjacent to the women’s locker room to access the Tennis Court entrance
  • The Tennis Court entrance to access the racquetball courts, courts 9-11, dance studio, indoor track and weight and fitness spaces (also accessible from the Cates Avenue entrance)
Starting February 1, 2016

The Main Breezeway Entrance will serve as the primary entrance to Carmichael Gym along with the Cates Avenue Entrance. The Aquatic Center Entrance continues to serve as the only access to the pools.

New Strength & Conditioning Fitness Center

The new Strength & Conditioning Fitness Center will feature 57 cardio machines (treadmills, ellipticals, stepmills, bikes, rowers, etc.), expanded core and stretching areas, two Olympic lifting platforms, new functional training equipment including the SYNGRY group functional training unit, kettlebells, tires and more. The space will open January 19, 2016.

Personal Viewing Screens – What’s on TV?

As part of the 5,000 sq. ft. fitness center addition, the new Strength & Conditioning Fitness Center will include 18 pieces of cardio equipment with personal viewing screens. You will be able to watch your favorite TV programs, track your workouts, and/or update your social media accounts all from your favorite cardio machine.
