Time: 8am - 5 p.m.
Cost: $25 per student
Registration Deadline: Wednesday, 3/20/19 by 12 p.m.
Mandatory Pre-trip Meeting: Wednesday, 3/20/19 at 6 p.m. in the Lakes Classroom, Room 1608

8 a.m. Trip Starts:

Check in at the Carmichael Recreation Center, at the Outdoor Adventures Equipment Rental desk

  • Load up the van and start driving to Raven Rock State Park
  • Arrive at Raven Rock, unload van, and prepare for a full day of hiking.
  • Start hiking
  • Will eat lunch on the trail (included)
  • Finish hiking, load up the van, drive back to campus, and clean up gear

5 p.m. Trip Ends:

Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Transportation, lunch and instruction are included. This will be a moderately strenuous, full day hike.

High Ropes Course and Zip Line

Date: Friday, March 29, 2019

Time: 2 p.m. - 6 p.m.

Cost: $5 per student
Registration Deadline: Friday, 3/29/19 by 12 p.m.
Pre-trip Information: A pre-trip info email will be sent out with the activity information by Wednesday, March 27, 2019.

Join our knowledgeable challenge course staff, and check out the NC State Challenge Course. You will go up into the high course, traverse the elements then fly off the zip line. Our friendly challenge course staff will walk you through everything you need to know to have a blast at the challenge course, so this is a perfect activity for beginners.

Getting to the Course:
  • 2 p.m.: A Shuttle will leave from the Outdoor Adventures Equipment Rental Center
  • 4 p.m.: A Shuttle will leave from the Outdoor Adventures Equipment Rental Center
  • Any time between 2 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.: Feel free to drive yourself out to the course
Leaving the Course
  • 4:30 p.m.: A Shuttle will leave the High Ropes Course to come back to campus
  • 6:00 p.m.: The last shuttle will leave the High Ropes Course to come back to campus
  • Feel free to drive yourself back from the course anytime between 2 p.m. – 6 p.m.

Instruction and equipment are included.

This is a beginner friendly event and no experience is necessary.

Rock Climbing at Pilot Mountain

Date: Sunday, March 31, 2019
Time: 6 a.m. - 7 p.m.
Cost: $50 per student
Registration Deadline: Wednesday, 3/27/19 by 12 p.m.
Mandatory Pre-trip Meeting: Wednesday, 3/27/19 at 6 p.m. in the Lakes Classroom, Room 1608

6 a.m. Trip Starts: Check in at the Carmichael Recreation Center, at the Outdoor Adventures Equipment Rental desk

  • Arrive at Pilot Mountain, unload the climbing gear and walk to the climbing area
  • The hike to/from climbing area is about 10 minutes, but very steep
  • Eat lunch at the climbing area
  • Finish climbing, pack up gear, and hike back to the van
  • Load up the van and start driving back to campus
  • Arrive back to campus and clean up the equipment

7 p.m. Trip Ends: Have a great rest of the night.

Transportation, lunch, equipment, and instruction are included.

The hike to and from the climbing area is the hardest part of the day. It is only a 10 minute hike, but is strenuous. The climbing portion of the trip is designed to be fun for both beginners and seasoned climbers alike. We will set up a variety of climbs, from easy beginner climbs, up to fun, classic intermediate climbs. If you are not familiar with climbing, we will teach you.

Friday Night Farm Campout

Date: Friday - Saturday, April 5 - 6, 2019
Time: Friday at 3:30 p.m. to Saturday at 12 p.m.
Cost: $20 per student
Registration Deadline: Wednesday, 4/3/18 by 12 p.m.
Pre-trip Information: A pre-trip infoemail will be sent out with trip information by Wednesday, 4/3/19.

Friday

3:30 p.m. Trip Starts: Check in at the Carmichael Recreation Center, at the Outdoor Adventures Equipment Rental desk

  • Load up the bus and drive to the NC State Farm
  • Arrive at the farm and unload the bus
  • Learn how to set up tents, set up camp. Once camp is set up, help out on the Farm.
  • Fun time. Play lawn games, socialize, or explore the farm.
  • Help cook dinner with food harvested from the farm.
  • Enjoy time around a campfire, make S’mores, have a jam session, or just socialize.
Saturday
  • Wake up, eat breakfast (included), and pack up camp
  • Hike around Yates Mill Pond
  • Load up the bus and drive back to campus
  • Arrive back on campus and clean up equipment

12 p.m. Trip Ends: Finish up your farm experience and have a great rest of the weekend.

Transportation, all meals, equipment, and instruction are included. This is a perfect beginner introduction to camping trip, and fun for everyone.

Afternoon Kayaking Trip to Falls Lake

Date: Saturday, April 13, 2019
Time: 1 p.m. - 5 p.m.
Cost: $15 per student
Registration Deadline: Wednesday, 4/10/19 by 12 p.m.
Mandatory Pre-trip Meeting: Wednesday, 4/10/19 at 6 p.m. in the Lakes Classroom, Room 1608

1 p.m. Trip Starts: Check in at the Carmichael Recreation Center, at the Outdoor Adventures Equipment Rental desk

  • Load up the van and drive to Falls Lake State Recreation Area
  • Arrive at the Beverdam Boat Ramp at Falls Lake and unload the boats
  • Learn basic kayak anatomy and basic kayak paddle strokes
  • Get on the lake and practice your paddling skills.
  • Head back to the van, load up the kayaks, and head back to campus

5 p.m. Trip Ends: Finish your adventure and enjoy the rest of your day.

Transportation, equipment and instruction are included.
Beginners welcome. This will be a fun and easy paddling trip, perfect for every skill level.

Spring Holiday Asheville Adventure Trip

Cost: $200 per student

  • Pack up the gear, load the van and head to the Asheville area
  • Arrive at the hiking area
  • Eat lunch at the trailhead, then start hiking
  • Hike about 3 miles
  • Finish hiking and drive to the camping area and set up camp
  • Once camp is set up, cook dinner and eat
  • Bedtime. Rest up for the next day.
Saturday
  • Wake up, make breakfast, and drive to the whitewater rafting office
  • Raft all day
  • Eat lunch on the river
  • Finish rafting and drive back to camp
  • Cook dinner and eat
  • Bedtime. Rest up for the next day.
Sunday
  • Wake up, make breakfast, break down camp, and drive into Asheville
  • Explore Asheville for half a day
  • Eat lunch in Asheville (lunch not included)
  • Finish exploring Asheville, and start driving back to campus
  • Arrive back to campus, unload and clean equipment

7 p.m. Trip Ends:Once gear is cleaned, enjoy the rest of your day.

Transportation, most meals, equipment and instruction are included and no experience is necessary.

This is a beginner to moderately strenuous trip. Being able to swim is not a requirement for the whitewater rafting portion of this trip, but being comfortable in the water while wearing a life jacket is recommended.

Spring Holiday Backpacking Trip in Pisgah National Forest

  • Arrive at the trailhead in Pisgah National Forest
  • Eat lunch at the trailhead, then start backpacking
  • Backpack about 3 miles
  • Get to camp and set up tents, cook dinner and eat
  • Bedtime. Rest up for the next day.
Saturday
  • Wake up, make breakfast, break down camp, and start backpacking for the day
  • Backpack about 7-9 miles
  • Eat lunch on the trail
  • Arrive at camp and set up tents, cook dinner and eat
  • Bedtime. Rest up for the next day.
Sunday
  • Wake up, make breakfast, break down camp, start backpacking for the day
  • Backpack about 3-5 miles
  • Eat lunch on the trail, in the van, or stop on the way back
  • Arrive back at the van, load up equipment, and start driving back to campus
  • Arrive back to campus, unload and clean equipment

7 p.m. Trip Ends: Once gear is cleaned, enjoy the rest of your day.

Transportation, most meals, equipment and instruction are included and no experience is necessary.
This will be a moderately strenuous trip where you will be required to carry a 50-pound​ backpack over rugged terrain in a variety of weather conditions.

Earth Day Cleanup at Lake Raleigh

Date: Sunday, April 21, 2019
Time:m1 p.m. - 4 p.m.
Cost: Free - Register through an Evite (Friends, families, and others all welcome.)
Registration Deadline: Wednesday, 4/17/19 at 12 p.m.

Itinerary

1 p.m. Meet up at the Dorothy and Roy Park Alumni Center parking lot

  • Choose to either clean trash off the lake by canoe, pick up litter along the trail or help with trail maintenance to help prevent erosion and make the trail system less confusing.
  • Please wear clothes that can get messy, closed-toe shoes (if you want to participate in trail maintenance) and bring work gloves (if you have them). Sunblock, a water bottle, and dressing for the weather will also make you more comfortable. Mainly, just bring yourself.
  • Snacks and water will be provided.

4 p.m. Grab a selfie with hundreds of pounds of trash and recycling, celebrate a cleaner Lake Raleigh.

Date: Friday, April 26, 2019
Time: 6 p.m. - 9 p.m.
Cost: $5 per student
Registration Deadline: Wednesday, April 24, 2019 at 12 p.m.
Pre-trip Information: A pre-trip informational email will be sent out with the activity information by Wednesday, April 24, 2019.

Itinerary

6 p.m. Trip Starts: Check in at the Carmichael Recreation Center, at the Outdoor Adventures Equipment Rental desk

  • Load up the van and drive to Lake Raleigh
  • Arrive at the Boat Ramp at Lake Raleigh and unload the boats
  • Learn basic canoe anatomy and basic canoe paddle strokes
  • Get on the lake and practice your paddling skills.
  • Watch the sun set over the lake from your canoe
  • Head back to the van, load up the canoes, and head back to Outdoor Adventures

9 p.m. Trip Ends: Finish your adventure and enjoy the rest of your night.


How to Register

  • Bring your Wolfpack One Card to to the first floor of the Carmichael Recreation Center to register for a trip.
  • Trips are sold on a first-come/first serve basis.
  • Full payment is due at the time of registration.
  • Deposits are accepted if the trips costing more than $100.

Trip Information

  • You must attend the pre-trip meeting for your specific trip. If you do not attend the meeting you will be dropped from the trip and a refund will not be given.
  • You must pass the Fitness Assessment and/or Water Comfort Test if required for your trip.
  • You must travel in our vehicles. Driving separately, meeting the group or being picked up is not allowed.
  • Alcohol, tobacco and drug use are prohibited for the duration of the trip. If you violate these rules you are subject to removal from the trip and transportation back to NC State will be at your expense.

Refunds

To be considered for a refund, please inform us least two weeks before the pre-trip meeting that can no longer attend. You must fill out a refund request, which must be turned into us. Deposits on trips are non-refundable.

For personal emergencies, partial or full refunds between two weeks and the pre-trip meeting may be provided in consideration of written and verifiable proof of inability to attend (a doctor’s note). Documentation must be provided five working days before the trip’s departure date in order for any refund to be considered. No refunds will be given after this period regardless of reason.

All refunds are at the discretion of the Outdoor Adventures coordinator. Refunds will be provided if we cancel the activity.
