Equipment Checkout and Rental
Locations
Equipment Checkout, located on the first floor near the entrance to the Men’s Locker Room, is where users can find sports and fitness equipment. This is also where Lost and Found storage is located.
Outdoor Adventures Equipment Rental Center, located in the first floor lobby of Wellness and Recreation Center South, is where users will find outdoor recreation and lawn game equipment.
Equipment Checkout
Use your Wolfpack One card or Wellness and Recreation member ID to check out any of the following items:
Equipment must be returned 30-minutes prior to closing the same day it was checked out. Failure to return equipment may result in equipment replacement charges and processing fees.
Clothing Checkout
T-shirts are available for you during your visit. We provide daily and long-term rentals. Please return all checked-out clothing once your membership has ended. You may be charged replacement and processing fees for clothing not returned.
Lost and Found
If you have lost an item during your visit, please visit the Equipment Checkout desk.
- Non-valuable items are kept for for a period of 14 days, after which they may be donated to a local charitable organization or discarded.
- “Valuable” items will be kept in a secured safe and are sent to NC State University Police on a weekly basis. In order to claim valuable items, you must present a valid photo ID.

Outdoor Adventures Equipment Rental Center
Reservations
To reserve outdoor activity equipment, contact wellrec-outdoor@ncsu.edu Monday through Friday at least 24 hours before your requested pickup date. Make payments inside at the Outdoor Adventures Equipment Rental Center at time of pick up. Gear may be picked up at the Wellness and Recreation Center garage doors (located in the parking lot near Miller Fields) during our open hours.
Group Rentals: For group rentals, please complete the Custom Outdoor Programs form.
Guidelines and Procedures
Reservations
- You may not cancel your reservation once payment has been made. No refunds will be issued for any reason (including inclement weather).
- During busy times, rentals may be limited to four items per person (e.g., four tents, four sleeping bags, etc.), and two items per person for canoes, kayaks and stand up paddleboards.
- Payment must be made by credit or debit card (no cash or checks).
Equipment Return
- Equipment may be returned during business hours only. Please arrive a minimum of 30 minutes before closing time, and allow approximately 15 minutes to check equipment back in.
- Equipment does not need to be returned by the renter. Other individuals may return the equipment.
- Returned items are expected to be reasonably clean and dry. Cleaning fees may be assessed for excessively dirty items.
- Do not wash sleeping bags or tents.
- A cleaning charge of $5, $10 or $15 per item will be assessed for equipment requiring cleaning.
- For equipment returned after the due date, a late charge will be incurred.
- A late charge will be calculated by the daily rate multiplied by the number of days late (up to 30-days). You are responsible for the late charge and a replacement charge for items not returned after 30-days.
- You are responsible for the full replacement cost of all equipment not returned, damaged, lost, or stolen.
Boats and Canoes
- Please reserve boats a minimum of 24 hours in advance. Please and pick up/return all boats by 5:30 p.m.
- You are responsible for the loading/unloading of the canoe(s) and kayak(s) onto your vehicle or trailer. We will provide an information sheet with proper instructions for strapping a boat to your vehicle.
