Student Employee Friends and Family Student Employee Scholarship

Student development is integral to the success of our organization. We employ more than 650 students employees annually who embody our vision for well-being, empowering them to develop problem-solving, communication and decision-making skills. The Wellness and Recreation Friends and Family Student Employee Scholarship was established to provide financial assistance to two undergraduate student employees who uphold the mission, inspire others to live active and well, exhibit leadership qualities, contribute to the success of the team and serve as role models for healthy and balanced living.

Facilities and Programs

Since 1961, Carmichael Gym has been a cornerstone of health, wellness, and physical education at NC State. Today, the 450,000-square-foot Wellness and Recreation Center provides inclusive, sustainable spaces for fitness, recreation, and connection. Programs such as intramural and club sports, fitness classes, outdoor adventures, and wellness coaching promote active, healthy lifestyles. In collaboration with Campus Health and the Counseling Center, initiatives like Exercise is Medicine® support both mental and physical well-being. Annual gifts and endowments help sustain these programs and events like RecFest and the Moonlight Howl and Run.

NC State Day of Giving is an annual, daylong fundraising event that typically takes place in March. For 24 hours, the Wolfpack comes together to help NC State achieve more: creating greater opportunities, providing broader educational access, fostering bolder visions and conducting more innovative research. The collaborative aspect of NC State Day of Giving shows how much we can achieve together.

Campbell and Dodson Family Award

The Campbell and Dodson Family Award honors the legacy of Tyler Campbell and Susan Dodson, who embodied integrity, kindness, and a deep commitment to health, fitness, and community through their involvement with Wellness and Recreation. Carmichael Gym was their second home, where they built friendships, inspired others, and led by example. This award recognizes a Wellness and Recreation student employee who exemplifies their values of character, work ethic, and dedication to fostering well-being and community. Nominate someone who reflects these principles and contributes meaningfully to the mission of Wellness and Recreation.
